The Process
Intervention begins with an assessment process. Once data is collected and areas of strengths and needs are identified, we set up a meeting to set goals with the parent, caregiver, or the home school teacher. An appropriate intervention schedule is set. Involved adults receive tips and suggestions for supporting and encouraging their children at home. In some cases, parents may opt to tutor their own children with the guidance and support of Read to Me Daley.

Assessment
Intervention begins with assessment. Your instructor will gather important information in the following areas: alphabetics (phonics), phonemic awareness, word knowledge, spelling, comprehension, and vocabulary. Parents will receive a written report and conference to discuss results. Parents will work with the interventionist to set goals that will address the child's reading needs and aggressively close the reading gap.

Intervention Lessons
Lessons will address the 5 components of literacy that are supported by the National Reading Panel: phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and phonemic awareness. Lessons build upon children's motivation to learn and will help to develop a system of independence in regard to efficient word learning.

Parent Involvement
Parents will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to support their children's reading growth at home. They will also learn about the early reading process and can use this information to have meaningful conversations with their children's teachers. Children will benefit from practicing their reading skills in school, at home and during intervention lessons, thereby making steady, solid progress.
