Andrea Daley, MS Literacy

Teaching young children to read continues to be a rewarding and exciting career. I have received high quality, advanced training in early literacy instruction, and I have worked in partnership with outstanding literacy researchers, teachers and administrators throughout my career. As a result, I have learned effective methods for closing reading gaps and establishing a love of reading with many children over the years. Having left New York State to enjoy the warm sunshine of Myrtle Beach, I long for the interaction and positive relationships that I have enjoyed with my students and their parents. I have decided to start my own consulting/tutoring business, in order to continue the work that I love. My focus will be on closing reading gaps, involving parents and caregivers in the process, as well as encouraging students to discover the joy that a reading life can bring. This balanced approach is strongly rooted in research. Instruction combines phonological and phonics skills, along with an emphasis on word solving strategies and comprehension. Working alongside parents and caregivers, I will be responsive to your child's specific needs, while building motivation and self confidence as children apply what they learn to real books. This is not a "once size fits all" program- but instead, tailors instruction to each child's specific needs. Motivation to read is a key factor in the progress readers make. Sessions/ meetings will be held at the local library, and children will learn how to pick out their own books, which are at the appropriate level for independent reading. You are invited to contact Read to Me Daley for a phone consult or assessment session.
